In class:
LA6:
Turned in genre practice ("Would you rather..." and crossword)
Glued Fiction Signposts Cheatsheet into "Records" section of notebook
Introduced signposts in general...all authors put these items in their stories and they give us something to look for as readers...when we get to them, we should identify the signpost (explicit information) and then answer the anchor question for the signpost (implicit information) and then think about what literary element the answer could help us to understand
Went over Contrasts and Contradictions...defined the signpost, went over the anchor question, and discussed literary elements the signpost could help us to understand while students completed guided notes in Schoology...to practice applying the signpost, we watched a short film called "Presto", identifying the CCs in the film and answering the anchor question for each CC...will continue to introduce the other signposts this week
LA5:
Finished going over detailed information about reading genres while students filled in guided notes
Scaffolded practice with reading genres...students completed a Reading Genres puzzle where they had to identify the correct subgenre when given a definition, then color in letters on the puzzle to reveal a secret message (must finish for HW if not done in class)
More practice with genres...students completed a Genre and Subgenre Reading Sort where they were given the title and author of a book as well as a quick description of the book...using this information, they have to identify the genre and subgenre of the book and explain their answer (must finish for HW if not done in class)
