What to expect at auditions

When & Where

• Meet in choir room after school

• Fill out paper audition forms

• Be ready to start at 3:15

• Dance auditions in choir room
  Learn the choreo from the video provided. We will review a couple of times before getting started.

• Song auditions in C2 - group 1 will be 4:30-5:30 and group 2 will be 5:30-6:30

  • A half hour may be added to the time slot depending on the number of auditions

  • You may be asked to do a cold read immediately after your song. Those sides are posted here.

  • We will have a short vocal call back at 7:00. We will tell you in your auditions if you have a call back 

How to find an audition song 

• Find a musical with a similar sound to Shrek

• Find something also written by David Lindsey Abaire or Jeanine Tesori

• Find songs sung by actors that were in the Broadway show

• Song cuts should be approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds

• Find a karaoke version of your song on Youtube or you can record your own track

• Chose a song that shows off what you can do!

What to wear

• Be comfortable you will be moving a lot in the dance audition

• Wear shoes you can dance in

  • jazz or character shoes are not required, it is your preference

• During the singing auditions dress to impress. This does not need to be your Sunday finest but clean and put together 

  • If you are singing immediately after the dance audition and do not have time to change that is ok! 

Tips or tricks

• Be sure to slate-introduce yourself and the title of song from title of musical

  • Your slate is also an opportunity for the directors to see  you and your sparkling personality 

• Project

• You're always auditioning-be sure to be positive and polite when not on stage  

• BREATHE! Take your time- don't rush through your slate or song 

  • • You can always restart 

• Make strong choices!
