Welcome to the Mathematics Mastery Page!
Here at BPA, we teach mathematics following the Mathematics Mastery programme by Ark Curriculum. The programme enables us to deliver a well-rounded mathematics curriculum; ensuring all children are exposed to arithmetic and reasoning in greater depth.
The Mathematics Mastery vision
Mathematics Mastery aims to ensure that every child has the opportunity to enjoy and succeed in mathematics, regardless of background.
In order to deepen the children's understanding of mathematics, all Mathematics Mastery lessons include elements from the dimensions of depth. These focus on conceptual understanding, language and communication and mathematical thinking. When each of these areas are covered within a lesson, mathematical problem solving can take place.
All Mathematics Mastery lessons follow a six part model. This means that the lesson has been divided into six sections; each enabling the children to discuss their learning and deepen their understanding of the topic. The six parts are made up of:
Part of the Maths Mastery journey, that the children will go on whilst at BPA, involves regular maths meetings. These are quick afternoon sessions that involve consolidating prior learning and can be used to provide a basic starting point for new topics. Most maths meetings provide teachers with a valuable opportunity for assessment and enabled them to tailor the session to meet the children's needs.
