The Bourne High School to Career Department supports all students as they explore their options for life after graduation. Through intentional coursework, planning tools, and hands-on experiences, students develop the skills and confidence needed to access a wide range of career pathways.
Coursework in Seminar, Career Readiness, and Personal Finance equips students to present themselves professionally, communicate effectively, and understand the financial realities of life after high school. As part of this work, students use the MEFA Pathway platform to explore careers, research colleges, build résumés, and track their post-secondary planning in a structured and personalized way.
Real-world learning is at the heart of the program. From interviews with community partners to senior internships, students engage in authentic experiences that deepen their understanding of career expectations and workplace culture. Together, this comprehensive programming ensures every student graduates with the tools to succeed—whether their next step is higher education, the workforce, or the military.

Seminar is the foundational course in Bourne High School’s School to Career program. Designed specifically for ninth-grade students, the course helps them transition smoothly into high school while building the essential academic and personal skills needed for long-term success.
Throughout the semester, students strengthen their study habits, organization, time management, and goal-setting skills. They also develop presentation and communication skills through structured activities that build confidence and prepare them for the collaborative and professional expectations of later coursework.
Seminar introduces students to early college and career exploration, including self-assessments and planning tools that support informed decision-making as they progress through high school. With a focus on self-awareness, responsibility, and academic independence, the course lays a strong foundation for future learning and engagement in the School to Career pathway.
This course is a requirement for all Grade 9 students!
Career Readiness is a course that is foundational in the School to Career program at Bourne High School.
The purpose of this course is to provide students with an authentic learning experience that will assist them in improving their knowledge of career opportunities as well as to encourage them to develop and work toward goals for life beyond high school.
Students will gain a better understanding of who they are as individuals by exploring their own interests, strengths, and values. With this information, students will research, evaluate, and learn about modern work opportunities and how they can pursue their career of interest.
The use of the MEFA Pathway platform will support students as they construct a professional portfolio that includes their formal cover letter and resume. Students will also engage in a culminating learning experience as they participate in a formal interview with a community member.
This course is a requirement for all grade 10 students!

Personal Finance student learns about investing in the Stock Market
The primary goal of this course is to provide students with basic financial tools and knowledge that will enable them to build the lives they envision for themselves after high school.
Students will engage in course content that will examine personal budgeting, use of credit, making investments, as well as protecting and insuring assets.
Students will engage in authentic learning experiences that will promote financial responsibility and help them prepare for their financial futures.
This course is a requirement for all Grade 11 students and aligns with our Credit for Life Fair through Cape Cod 5!
