Ms. Moguel (she/her)
I grew up in western North Carolina and then Buffalo, NY, where my parents still live. I have a younger brother, who is a professional dancer and technician. I received my BA in Classical Studies from Brandeis University (I minored in math and Italian - study abroad if you can!) and my MAT in Latin from Boston University.
This is my 15th year teaching Latin at BLS! I am the coach for the Novice Certamen team (3x National champs!), sponsor for our chapter of the Junior Classical League, and advisor for the Boston Latin Community Development Corps, Dance Club, BLS Bakes, and Ballet Club. I dance with a local company (modern, jazz, and tap), and have an awesome standard poodle named Strider.

I am excited to be teaching Earth Science to grade 7 students in Mare Cluster this year! This will be my fourth year in this role. Before this, I was teaching grade 8 science at BLS (Sigma Cluster). Previously, I taught at the Lyndon School in Boston Public Schools. I grew up in Ohio and went to college in New Jersey. I am the faculty advisor to BLS's FemInSTEM and Physics Lab, and I live in Brookline with my wife and three children (ages 10 and younger).
Mr. Marvin-Vanderryn (Mr. MV)
I grew up in southwestern Colorado and attended Michigan State University. I moved to Boston several years ago, and before coming to BLS, I worked at a charter school in Dorchester. This will be my third year at BLS, and I'm looking forward to having you in my class!
Ms. Orellana (she/her)
I was born in Germany but I grew up in Michigan. As a native Michigander, I am a huge fan of Michigan State basketball and The University of Michigan football. My high school alma mater is Lansing Everett High School (Magic Johnson is a famous alum). I attended the University of Toledo in Ohio on a basketball scholarship earning a bachelor's degree in English & Communications. Graduate school led me to Bowling Green State University, also in Ohio, where I earned my master's degree in American Culture Studies.
Hyde Park has been my home for 23 years. I have three daughters. The oldest graduated from Salem State University. My middle daughter (BLS '23) is a junior at Framingham State and coaches volleyball and basketball at BLS. My youngest daughter is a junior at BLS and a member of the varsity volleyball team. We have an Olaf, our 9 yr old chihuahua mix, and a Nala, our 2 yr old mixed breed cat.
This is my 18th year teaching ELA at Boston Latin School. I am the head coach for the Girls Basketball program and serve along with Mr. MV as a faculty advisor for the BLS Writing Club.
Ms. Penaloza (she/her)
I grew up and still live in Boston (Hyde Park!) and graduated from BLS in 2008. I received my Bachelor's degrees in Secondary Education and Mathematics from Emmanuel College and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Fitchburg State University. This will be my 6th year teaching at BLS. Before teaching at BLS, I taught 7th grade in Framingham for 8 years.
I recently picked up puzzling as a hobby that I enjoy mostly during vacations. This past spring I tried golfing for the first time. Although I didn't get to play much over the summer, I hope to continue to get better at it throughout the fall.

Ms. Falcone (she/her)
Hello!
My name is Caroline Falcone and I have the pleasure of being the 7th grade ESL teacher at Boston Latin School. I support ESL students through co-teaching and pull-out sessions. Specifically, I work with multilingual students to ensure that the content they are receiving in their core classes is comprehensible, while also monitoring and developing their output in English. While I do not teach a core content, I do interact with many students at BLS and am available to support every child’s needs. I look forward to getting to know all of you this year!
