U.S. News article: How to Encourage Your Teen to Spend Time on Self-Care
Dedicate a space at home for your child to use consistently if possible.
Help them make use of their agenda book to keep track of nightly homework assignments, upcoming assessments, and due dates.Â
Check your child's backpack periodically to help them keep it organized, clean, and portable.
You can also help them plan out a weekly schedule to help balance their schoolwork and other activities!
Email the teacher whose Classroom you'd like to join from the email you want to be reached at. Make sure you include the name of your child and their class section if possible. We can then invite you via that email address.
Go on SIS/Aspen. You will be able to see how your child is scoring on their work and if they are missing any work. You will find some abilities to set notifications to be sent to you.
Additionally, you can sign up for Guardian Contact emails from your child's Google Classrooms to receive weekly summaries of posts and submissions.
Cluster meetings are a time set aside for all of a student's core academic teachers, Associate Head of School Mr. Mulhern, Guidance team members, and other support staff to sit with a student's parents/guardians to discuss concerns. These meetings may be requested by teachers, counselors, or parents due to academic, social, behavioral, or health concerns.
If you would like to request a cluster meeting, please email Ms. Penaloza at epenaloza@bostonpublicschools.org for availability.
Please fill out the Absence Form to notify BLS of your child's absence as soon as you are able.
It is also very helpful if you or your child can email their teachers to notify us of the absence. That will initiate communication with the team, and we can work together to catch your child up on any missed work or assessments. If you know of an absence in advance, please let us know as soon as you can. We may be able to give your child some work ahead of time, so they don't fall behind!
There are a number of academic programs at BLS established to support student learning!
After School Tutoring is free and run on a drop-in basis Mondays-Thursdays 2:15-3:15. Students can drop in and work with a teacher or peer tutor on content they would like help with.
The Writing Center is a free program run by BLS teachers. Your child can sign up ahead of time or drop in to get help with any writing assignment.
Peer tutoring can be set up through your child's guidance counselor, so that they can meet with a BLS student during the school day to get extra help in a subject.
Saturday Success School requires that you fill out an application for your child to attend and is a more structured program, supporting students who are struggling in two or more academic classes. For more info, contact Ms. Delorme Metayer.
