In the summer of 2023, Bostonia Academy was created within the Department of Innovation and Technology. This program provides any City of Boston employee with the tools they need to implement self-led process improvements in their jobs. Since January 2024, Bostonia Academy has trained over 350 employees in basic process improvement methodologies. Improvements from Bostonia Academy so far, including both trainees' projects and the Performance Coaches' consulting, have saved over 350,000 hours to staff and 820,000 hours to constituents/stakeholders annually.
OUR FRAMEWORK
OUR MISSION
The Performance Coaches use a set of public-sector-based process improvement tools to enable and empower City of Boston employees to make data-driven decisions and improve work that is within their control and influence.
OUR VISION
We aim to cultivate a culture of innovation across the city through collaboration, community, and connection-building.
HOW WE DO IT
Our process improvement curriculum has Six Sigma, Lean methodology, and Kaizen roots. Denver Peak Academy, the first internal municipal process improvement program in the country, also heavily influences the training. We advocate for low and no-cost innovations that improve employees' daily work for both them and their constituents.
