FIRST MEETING 8/19/24 Discussion: A-wing Wall "Proud to be an American," new shirt designs, posters for recruitment, possible Veterans' Home Game Day, Field Trip ideas.
The kids really want to go to the Tabasco Factory in Lafayette, but that is 7 hours on the bus! We will keep thinking.
8/25/24 We started on our wall in A wing that will be dedicated to the Branches of the US Military. I can't wait for y'all to see the final reveal! The kids are already thinking of what they want to do for next year in C wing. I love these kids, they are forward thinkers.
Meeting 9/9/24 We almost had a full house today for Flight Time.
Decisions: We will complete the A Wing Wall on Sunday 9/22/24 1-5pm, including a lunch break at Johnny's.
We have decided on a new t-shirt and a hoodie. Both will be gray with red writing. I have contacted Oasis and will have prices soon.
Next meeting we will begin making Veterans' Day Card for the NWLA Veterans Home.
IT'S DONE! A wing wall dedicated to the branches of the US Military is complete. Thanks to all the S2S members that helped. I think they did a great job. (10/14/24)
10/21/24
We met to finish our Cards for Veterans Day to give to the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home (see attached photo)
We decided to participate in the Angel Tree as the Altruistic Project for December (more to come soon on that).
We decided to have an official send off next week for Eric, whose family is moving at the end of the month. Eric is an 8th grader that joined S2S as a 6th grader, making him the club member who has been with us the longest. We will miss you Eric and wish you all the best at your new school in Tennessee.
T-shirt orders are in (see attached photo). Thanks to club member Caroline, who came up with the design. T-Shirts are $8 and Sweatshirts are $12. This is covered in your dues.
Don't forget that Purple Up T-shirt Designs are do in January to be considered for the contest. THERE IS PRIZE MONEY INVOLVED!
10/31/24 It is with great resistance that we say farewell to Eric. Eric has been a memeber of S2S since 6th grade. His family is moving to Tennessee sooner than originally expected. We held a little going away, as we do for all of our 8th graders that leave us. We wish Eric all the best in new adventures!
11/11/24 - We participated in the school wide Veterans' Day Celebration . Thank you to those club members that volunteered to read! Public speaking can be hectic, but these kids are pros!!!
December 6th: Out Altruistic project for this month was the Angel Tree at the BIC. We took a boy and a girl from the tree to provide Christmas for this year. It was fun shopping for littles, all of my kids are grown! lol S2S students voted to do this project and contributed to the shopping. Merry Christmas everyone!
1/24/2025 WOW is it really 2025? The Club has decided to paint a mural on the wall just inside C-wing. I know it will look awesome. The 8th graders want to see all the projects done before they move on to high school. LOL Currently they are working on deciding where to go on this year's field trip. This is an amazing group of kids that love and support each other in the best way. One student left us briefly but came back today and we are all excited she is back. Unfortunately today is my last day with S2S. I have accepted another position that I am very excited about. I have left them in good hands though, Mrs. Angel Salter will be taking over and I know she will love this group as much as I have. I will miss you all terribly. Stay possitive and sweet. Love you, Dr. Henderson.
ps - should I leave the Jolly Ranchers with Mrs. Salter too?
