Accelerated Reader

As of August 20, 2020, Accelerated Reader will not be a requirement of 6th Grade English Language Arts. As school changes phases, this may be subject to change. Should it change, any information regarding Accelerated Reader is below.

Accelerated Reader, also referred to as AR, serves as the only constant home-learning assignment that your child is required to do in my class on a daily basis.

Each student will be required to read 2 chapter books per 9 weeks ON THEIR READING LEVEL, unless instructed otherwise due to unforeseen circumstances. There will be two due dates for each 9 weeks, one for each book. Each student is required to test on 1 book before each due date. The score made on each test will go in the grade book as a "Test" grade. For example, if a student tests on a book and makes a 7 out of 10, it would translate into the grade book as a 70 out of 100. However, if a student tests on their AR book and does not score well, they may test on however many books before the due date until they receive a better score, and I will take the highest score to input into the grade book. However, even if they test on 5 books before the first due date, they still must read and test on a book within the second due date window. This is to ensure students are reading throughout the entire 9 weeks, as well as focusing more on the quality of their reading, rather than reading a large portion of books to reach a point goal.

I will update this page with the due dates, as well as send the due dates out on ClassDojo and Remind!

PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN TO READ EACH AND EVERY NIGHT!
