This course introduces students to knowledge and skills to function in the capacity of a responder arriving at the scene of a medical emergency and providing care until advanced EMS help arrives. Classroom and laboratory instruction includes assessment of the patient, airway management, CPR, automated external defibrillator, hemorrhage control, bandaging, splinting, and childbirth.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student is eligible to become a state first-responder certification examination. The student will also be eligible to be certified in CPR by the American Heart Association.
Guest speakers and field trips will provide additional exposure to the Emergency Medical System. This 1 credit class, scheduled for one term, is for juniors or seniors who are interested in any area of emergency care. This includes EMT’s paramedics, firemen, and emergency room personnel. Required scores on the entrance test must be met. Students will also receive 1 credit in the Into to EMT course.
Please note the calendars reflect assignment due dates. Assignment sheets are posted every Monday with a list of all assignments due for the week. The assignment sheet should be checked daily to ensure additional assignments have not been added.
