What is PBIS?

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a school-wide approach to teaching expectations for creating a safer and more effective school. PBIS is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school-wide, and classroom expectations systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students. With PBIS, instructional time is more effectively used for teaching and the overall school environment is calm and conducive to learning.

PBIS allows parents/guardians and teachers to have open communication about what is expected in all areas of the school. Our school’s behavioral expectations center on responsibility, respect, and safety. Even though the school district assumes a leading role in the PBIS program, its success is dependent upon the support of parents, local businesses and the surrounding community.
