This class will focus on four critical areas:
Developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships.
Developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations.
Solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume.
Drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

I have very little tolerance for behavior that is distracting or negative. If a student and I cannot come to an agreement on behavior that is helping to create a positive learning environment, then I will get the parents involved. If we are still having a problem, the administration will become involved.
Parents: PLEASE CHECK POWERSCHOOL REGULARLY. I update it at least once a week. I also try to grade assignments as quickly as possible - teachers don't like TONS of homework either! I will mark whether an assignment is late (with a zero and a "missing") in PowerSchool ASAP.
Tests: At least one per chapter. Covers the entire unit of study. Notice is given well in advance.
Quizzes: At least one per chapter. Pop quizzes may be given without notice on a smaller scale. Notice of chapter quizzes will be given well in advance.
ALEKS Topics: 10 Learned ALEKS topics are expected each week. These topics are specific to each student and their individual needs.
Homework: Given daily, except quiz and test days. Students should expect to have about 10-15 homework problems.
Projects: Each project will be assigned with its own set of requirements and information. They could count as a test, quiz, or another category of assignment.
Percentages: Grades are based on a weighted average.
Major Assignments - 60%
Minor Assignments - 40%
Major Assignments include quizzes and tests. Minor assignments will be made up of homework, classwork, ALEKS topics, etc.
Homework: Homework is given daily. It is the practice needed in order to move on. I try my best to not over do the amount of homework daily. I grade homework on completion - not correctness. As long as you attempt it - showing work - you will receive credit. However, if you simply give answers without the work, no credit will be given. Effort needs to be shown in order to be successful and receive homework credit. Homework is not accepted late because we go over it in class. Turning in the answers that you copied from the board does NOT help you at all.
Late Assignments: I don’t accept work late. Because math is a content that requires you to build on previously learned material, you need to stay on top of your assignments. Completing work late sets you even further behind.

ERASERS: we all make mistakes - plan accordingly.

You may want to have scissors, a ruler, markers/crayons, and glue/tape available at home should the need arise.
My students like to use whiteboards to work through problems. Having a small one at home or bringing a dry erase marker of your own is helpful!
If you are absent, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS MISSED. Google classroom is updated daily with the assignments and any hard copies needed will be placed on the absent board in the classroom for you to pick up. Work must be made up in the amount of time that was missed. For example, if you are absent for 2 days, you have 2 days to make up the missing assignments. If you are absent the day of a quiz or test, you are still responsible to take the quiz/test upon your return. If you have a planned absence approaching, please ask for work with enough buffer that I can pull it together for you.
If you do not pass 7th grade math for the year, students will be required to attend summer school in order to move onto 8th grade (at cost to the parents). If your child is struggling adjustments in placement will be made prior to the end of the year.
If a student successfully completes this course, the student will be recommended for Algebra I going forward. This is a high school level course completed in the BRMS building.
Do NOT wait until the last minute if you need extra help! Please ask, or email me, about a time we can meet to work one on one or in a smaller group. Math is cumulative and builds on prior concepts. If you don't have a good foundation, it makes the new concepts that much harder!
