Several 7th and 8th grade students participated in the The Panasonic Student Eco Citizenship Project as part of the new SOARING program at JHS. Each group explored Eco issues relating to the Boonton community, and took actions to make a positive impact. They developed skills in literacy, research, critical thinking and problem-solving. By the end, students created an illustrated Eco Picture Diary to highlight five specific eco actions they completed. Finally, they submitted their final projects to the Panasonic Eco Picture Diary Contest, and were judged on their understanding of issues, the actions they took, supporting evidence and illustrations, and their writing. The student groups addressed various environmental issues such as ghost fishing, organic and pesticide-free lawn care, restoration of the garden by the Board of Education building, and the preservation of endangered species. We are proud to announce that the entry of Scout Fenske, Isabella Serrano, and Olivia Tanis was chosen as one of the winners! This project was chosen out of all submissions across New Jersey! Their project entailed designing and presenting a lesson plan about sustainability for the 3rd Graders, organizing a collection of old t-shirts, and teaching the 3rd graders how to make dog toys out of the shirts. Their final action was delivering the dog toys to our local pet rescue, North Star on Main Street. Panasonic will be presenting an award to Scout, Isabella, and Olivia next Wednesday, June 7th.
John Hill School celebrated the annual Multicultural Festival last week sponsored by the Boonton PTA. The students had the opportunity to travel around the world to different countries right in the backyard of JHS. As they traveled around, they were able to do different artistic activities, learn dance steps from different countires, and taste delicious food that was donated from multiple restaurants in Boonton. A special thank you to all our volunteers who were able to help make this evening a huge success!
Students in the 4th grade took a walking trip to the Boonton Historical Society. Boonton historians showed the JHS students the exhibits of dresses worn by Boonton residents, how the town developed into what it is today and the history of the Boonton Police Department. At the conclusion of the tour, everyone was given a Boonton Historical Society gift bag that gave them more information on the services of the historical society and an opportunity to come back and visit with their families in the future.
On Wednesday, students from the JHS middle school choir led the crowd in God Bless America at the Somerset Patriots Game! It was a beautiful day for a game and a wonderful experience for the students! For a complete video, follow us on Instagram.

Please check your Realtime Parent Portal for third marking period grades. We are very proud of our students efforts in being the best students they can be! Also, attendance letters are available to view under the correspondence tab. Attendance letters are sent out once students meet attendance thresholds. The NJDOE has prioritized a measure of Chronic Absenteeism that our schools are accountable to. Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10 percent or more of the school days in session for which that student was enrolled. If a student is enrolled for the full school year, acquiring 18 or more absences equates to being chronically absent. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
