UPDATES AND INFORMATION
When watching TV or playing video games, kids are likely to be sedentary rather than playing with peers, friends, or parents.
Watching TV and playing on devices get in the way of children exploring, playing, and interacting with grown-ups and their peers — all of which encourage learning and healthy physical and social development.
As children get older, too much screen time can interfere with being physically active, reading, doing homework, playing with friends, and spending time with family.
Children who consistently spend too much time watching TV and using devices are more likely to be obese or overweight.
Literacy Family Night
We have been very busy in the Preschool Post Office! In the Literacy Center, we have been writing letters to our friends. We write lines and words to represent our message just like we do during Play Planning! After we write our letters, we know it’s time to go to Dramatic Play (the post office) to buy an envelope! Then we make sure we address it correctly and put a stamp on it. Once we do all of these things it can go in the mailbox! The mail carrier delivers it to the correct location! In the Table Toys Center, we are focusing on sorting our stamps. The students have come up with lots of different ways to sort them! This week we also read A Letter to Amy. We talked about our favorite parts of the book, as well as focused on retelling the story using the pictures.
This week in room 104, we began to discuss Valentine’s Day. We read some stories, which included Happy Valentine’s Day Little Critter, Max’s Valentine, and Mouse’s First Valentine. We talked about what Valentine’s Day means to us and who we love and appreciate in our lives. We did some Valentine’s Day crafts that we made for our families. Another fun thing we did this week was practicing our fine motor skills with beading friendship bracelets. We also got the opportunity to decorate our bags for when we give out our cards. The children are super excited to hand out their Valentine’s Day cards and celebrate on Tuesday! This week we reviewed the letters B & F. We played a letter sound game where the children were given items and had to sort them by their initial sounds (B and F). After playing the game we created a list of words that start with the letter B. We are finishing up our Restaurant theme and will begin our Pet/Vet theme when we come back from President’s Day weekend!
