Students entering the Boone County Preschool Program must qualify for Preschool services.
There are two ways to qualify:
If the child is 3 or 4 years of age they can qualify with a disability. If there is a delay in the child's development we have to prove that there is a disability. If the child is receiving therapy, has a diagnosis, or an evaluation report, it is possible that we can expedite the process of a referral for special education services. If there is no therapy, diagnosis, or evaluation reports, we suggest parents sign up for a Preschool Screening. We do several public screening events throughout the year. If there is a concern, the child would be placed in our interventions program for several weeks before a referral for special education evaluation.
The second way a child can qualify for state funded Preschool is with income eligibility. If the child is 4 years old by August 1st of that school year, he or she can qualify with income. Parents would have to fill out the application with the gross household income verification form and produce proof of income (several paycheck stubs, tax form etc.). If the gross household income is at or below 160% of the poverty rate, the child is eligible for Preschool.
