These are the instructions for setting up a Mac laptop for employees working for FareHarbor. If this situation does not apply to you, or the steps do not look like they are correct, click HERE.
Keep in mind the following:
Do NOT attempt set up your laptop prior to your official start date. This will result in an incorrectly set up laptop and cause errors.
Check your personal email for your Booking.com login details prior to setting up your laptop.
Should you run into issues during the setup, please contact IT Support.
This guide will assist you in setting up your new Mac laptop right out of the box. Note that due to potential differences in the version of the operating system, the screenshots may not look exactly like what you are seeing on your screen. The steps however are the same.
Wi-Fi (or Wired) internet connection
For the setup of your computer we recommend you to use Wi-Fi or a Wired internet connection. Although you can provision the device and set it up on a mobile data personal hotspot, it takes a lot of data, it may be slower, and is generally less reliable than using Wi-Fi. In this document we will use Wi-Fi to set up the device as it is most common.
Power supply
Please ensure that you connect the power supply provided with your computer to the device before beginning the setup process.
Mobile device for Okta (Multi-Factor) Setup
Services we use require you to authenticate using multi-factor authentication from outside of the office. You must have a smartphone (iOS or Android) ready to download and set up Okta Verify, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store respectively.
The steps for configuring your Mac are outlined below. Please follow all the steps to ensure proper functioning of your device as well as to ensure that you get access to our network and all the services you need after you have completed the setup of your computer.
If you are new to FareHarbor, you will be asked to create your Okta account during the setup process. Okta is the Identity Management system used by Booking.com. With an Okta account you will be able to identify yourself and get automatically logged in to many Booking.com tools and systems. One of these tools is our VPN software, GlobalProtect. With GlobalProtect you will be able to connect to the Booking.com network using your own credentials and work as if you were in the office.
Follow the below steps to configure your Mac and set up your Okta account:
Connect the power supply and switch on the computer.
If prompted, choose the preferred computer language.
Choose the country you are currently in:
If needed select your preferred Accessibility features. You can skip this by clicking Not Now.

The setup process takes a couple of minutes, when it is completed you will be presented with a screen to create your computer account. Your Full name and Account name will be pre-populated.
Enter your intial Okta account password in the password fields and click Continue.
IMPORTANT! If you have changed your password in the previous step, make sure to enter that NEW password here. Putting in a different password here will cause issues in the future!
Tick the box to enable location services.
Press Continue to Enable FileVault.
Set up Touch ID
When setting up Touch ID we recommend that you set up at least 2 fingerprints. Please note that, for security reasons, adding fingerprints of anyone other than yourself to Touch ID of any Booking.com device is not allowed. It is the equivalent of sharing your password, which is prohibited under any circumstances, as per the Acceptable Use Policy.
Choose your preferred look (can be changed later) and click Continue.
Your desktop will appear and within a minute your computer will proceed with installing the required corporate tools and applications.
Note that this window may be hidden behind another window.
The setup may take some time to complete.
During installation you may see a few notifications. Also the Self Service app may launch automatically and you may be prompted to log into Google Chrome and Google Drive. You can skip these steps for now, we will get back to them later.
Important!
If you do not see this screen when your desktop appears. Please first attempt to restart your computer by clicking on the Apple logo in the upper left and click on Restart.
If after the restart the screen still does not appear notify your trainer or IT Support Technician before moving on to the next step.
Once the installation is complete, the below window will show.
Click Continue to complete the setup.
You can now proceed to the next section: II - Set up Okta FastPass.
Note: Please note that the full setup, including the installation of Booking.com applications, may take up to 30 minutes. If after that time you do not have Self Service or any other Booking.com apps installed there are some troubleshooting steps you can take. You can contact IT Support or go to the Troubleshooting section at the end of the document.
Okta FastPass is the main way of authenticating when accessing company applications. It provides additional security and allows users to sign in to Okta without using a password. You can combine Okta FastPass with device-level biometrics to avoid putting in your password and getting additional prompts when accessing your Booking.com apps.
To be able to have a password-less experience when using Okta FastPass, Touch ID needs to be set up. If this is not set up, you will still need to enter your 16-digit password for each login and you may need to provide a secondary authentication method.
To get access to all apps, you will need to set up FastPass for both the Fareharbor and the Booking.com Okta:
Open Spotlight Search by simultaneously pressing ⌘ + Space bar.
Start typing Okta Verify until the program appears in the list.
Click Okta Verify.app.
Click Get started.
Enter okta.fareharbor.com in the sign-in URL text box and click Next.
A new browser window will open, prompting you to log into Okta.
You are asked to authenticate with your company credentials:
Enter your @fareharbor.com email address & password.
Verify with an Okta Verify Push notification on your phone.
Note you may be asked to authenticate with another security method, select Password and enter in your Okta Password.
Click Enable to use Touch ID for sign-in.
The first account has now been added, you will get redirected to the main screen.
Once redirected, click Use another account to start the setup for the Booking.com Okta.
Enter okta.booking.com in the sign-in URL text box and click Next.
A new browser window will open, prompting you to log into Okta.
You are asked to authenticate with your company credentials:
Enter your @fareharbor.com email address.
Verify with an Okta Verify Push notification on your phone.
Note that your credentials are the same for both Fareharbor and Booking.com Okta.
Note you may be asked to authenticate with another security method, select Password and enter in your Okta Password.
Click Enable to use Touch ID for sign-in.
The second account has now been added, you will get redirected to the main screen where you will now see 2 accounts.
Okta FastPass with Okta Verify has now been successfully set up on your computer. Note that you can only use this method on THIS computer as it is bound to the device. Okta will automatically pick the account you need to sign in, and you can easily verify using Touch ID.
You can now proceed with the next section: III - Connect to the Booking.com office network with GlobalProtect.
In order to get access to the Booking.com systems, tools and services, you will need to establish a VPN connection with the Booking.com network. We will do this with GlobalProtect and Okta.
Note: If you do not have GlobalProtect installed, please note that it can take up to 30 minutes for the full setup and installations of Booking.com applications to finish. If after that time you still do not have GlobalProtect installed, you can install it yourself from the Self Service App:
Open Spotlight Search (⌘ + Space bar) and Search for GlobalProtect.
In case you do not have Self Service installed, please contact IT Support.
Open Spotlight Search (⌘ + Space bar).
Start typing GlobalProtect until the program appears in the list and open it.
A globe icon will appear in the System tray/taskbar at the top right, click on the globe icon.
Click Connect.
Enter your @fareharbor.com email address and click Next.
If prompted with a pop-up window, click Open Okta Verify.
You can have your browser automatically open Okta Verify by ticking the box first:
Authenticate using Okta FastPass. A pop-up box will open asking you to use Touch ID.
Note: In case Touch ID was not enabled with Okta FastPass you will be asked to authenticate with your password and potentially a secondary MFA method.
If prompted with a pop-up Window, click Open Globalprotect.
You can have your browser automatically open Globalprotect by ticking the box first:
Once connected you will see that in the GlobalProtect application.
Once you have signed in for the first time GlobalProtect you will never have to start the program again through Spotlight Search. It will remain active and automatically establishes a connection any time it detects that you are not on our internal network. When authentication is needed (if it has been more than 8 hours since you have authenticated last), it will prompt you to authenticate by popping up the Okta Sign-in window again. If needed you can access it through the task bar.
When connected with GlobalProtect the VPN client automatically chooses the best available gateway to use by default. This is not necessarily the country that you live in. You can choose another one yourself at any time.
You can now proceed with the next section: III - Synchronize your computer password with your FareHarbor account password.
Immediately after signing into GlobalProtect, the extension called Kerberos SSO will ask you to log in. This extension keeps track of when your password is going to expire and lets you change your password.
IMPORTANT! If you do not see the window below pop up - click on the Kerberos SSO (Key Icon) in the menu bar, next to the time.
In the following pop-up, fill out your Booking.com username (not your email address) and Okta account password and click Sign In.
A prompt to sync your local computer account password with that of your Booking.com account will appear.
In the first field fill out the FareHarbor account password you have set in Okta.
In the second field fill out the password you have entered when creating the computer account.
IMPORTANT! If you have followed the previous instructions in section I correctly, you will be entering the same password in both fields. In case the passwords are different, the password you are entering 1st field is the one that is kept and should be used to log into your mac after synchronization.
Click Sync Password.
On the confirmation message click OK.
You can now proceed to the final section IV - Download or open Google Chrome.
We use Google Chrome as an internet browser at FareHarbor. Depending on your computer, Google Chrome might download in the background for you, or you might need to download it from Self-Service.
Open Spotlight Search by simultaneously pressing ⌘ + Space bar.
Start typing Google Chrome until the program appears in the list.
If the app is not yet installed, you can install it from Self Service.
Open the Self Service app.
Search for Google Chrome.
Click Install.
In the pop-up window make sure to set Google Chrome as your default browser. You can un-tick the other box if you so prefer.
Click sign in.
Enter your @fareharbor.com email address.
Authenticate using Okta FastPass
If prompted, confirm your identity by clicking Continue.
Click Continue to confirm profile management
Click Yes I'm In to enable account sync.
You have now logged into Chrome and you will be able to access your Email, Calendar, Google Drive and other web tools as normal.
Note: Some websites and extensions may require additional sign-in.
Use the Spotlight to search, Chrome and see if the app is available. If not, open Self-Service and search for Google Chrome and download it.
Once you have the Google Chrome app installed, open the browser and go to fareharbor.lessonly.com.
If the page doesn’t automatically sign you in, click Sign in with your Okta Account. You’ll use your FareHarbor email when prompted.
On the Learn tab, you’ll search for the path called, Software Setup. Once you’ve made it to this step, let your trainer know.
