These are the instructions for setting up a Mac laptop for employees working for Booking.com. If this situation does not apply to you, or the steps do not look like they are correct, click HERE.
Keep in mind the following:
Do NOT attempt set up your laptop prior to your official start date. This will result in an incorrectly set up laptop and cause errors.
Check your personal email for your Booking.com login details prior to setting up your laptop.
Should you run into issues during the setup, please contact IT Support.
If you are looking to set up Amazon Workspaces VDI on your own device, please refer to the VDI Setup page.
This guide will assist you in setting up your new Mac laptop right out of the box. Note that due to potential differences in the version of the operating system, the screenshots may not look exactly like what you are seeing on your screen. The steps however are the same.
Wi-Fi (or Wired) internet connection
For the setup of your computer we recommend you to use Wi-Fi or a Wired internet connection. Although you can provision the device and set it up on a mobile data personal hotspot, it takes a lot of data, it may be slower, and is generally less reliable than using Wi-Fi. In this document we will use Wi-Fi to set up the device as it is most common.
Power supply
Please ensure that you connect the power supply provided with your computer to the device before beginning the setup process.
Mobile device for Okta (Multi-Factor) Setup
Services we use require you to authenticate using multi-factor authentication from outside of the office. You must have a smartphone (iOS or Android) ready to download and set up Okta Verify, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store respectively.
The steps for configuring your Mac are outlined below. Please follow all the steps to ensure proper functioning of your device as well as to ensure that you get access to our network and all the services you need after you have completed the setup of your computer.
If you are new to Booking.com, you will be asked to create your Okta account during the setup process. Okta is the Identity Management system used by Booking.com. With an Okta account you will be able to identify yourself and get automatically logged in to many Booking.com tools and systems. One of these tools is our VPN software, GlobalProtect. With GlobalProtect you will be able to connect to the Booking.com network using your own credentials and work as if you were in the office.
Follow the below steps to configure your Mac and set up your Okta account:
Connect the power supply and switch on the computer.
If prompted, choose the preferred computer language.
Choose the country you are currently in:
If needed select your preferred Accessibility features. You can skip this by clicking Not Now.
Connect to a Wi-Fi network:
When setting your laptop up from home, select your home network and proceed to step 6.
If you are in office, you will have two options when connecting to BK-Guest Wi-Fi:
Option 1 - You will see the screen below:
Note that this window may be hiding behind another one. Be sure to look for it and complete the below steps before continuing to step 6.
Follow these steps:
1. Select Click to Connect to Wi-Fi
2. Choose Click Here next to Are you an employee?
3. If prompted, click on Allow, this allows Safari to open up.
4. You will be redirected to the Okta login screen. Enter your @booking.com email address and password.
If you are new to Booking, follow the on screen instructions to setup your Okta account and change the temporary password you were given. For more information about the Okta Setup, click HERE.
If you have not received your credentials yet, reach out to your manager.
Option 2 - You will see the screen below:
Request the BK-GUEST password from IT or Office Management. Then proceed to step 6.
After connecting to a Wireless/Wired network, the Remote Management screen will pop up. Click Enroll.
You can now close the Safari Browser window.
You will be redirected to the Okta login screen. Enter your @booking.com email address.
If you are new to Booking and you have not received your credentials yet, reach out to your manager.

If you are new to Booking and you have not received your credentials yet, reach out to your manager.
If you do not have your Okta account set up yet, you will be prompted to do so now. You will also be prompted to change the temporary password you were provided. If you already have an Okta account, please proceed to step 10.
Follow the steps in the Okta setup page HERE.
The setup process takes a couple of minutes, when it is completed you will be presented with a screen to create your computer account. Your Full name and Account name will be pre-populated.
Enter your Booking.com account password in the password fields and click Continue.
IMPORTANT! If you have changed your password in the previous step, make sure to enter that NEW password here. Putting in a different password here will cause issues in the future!
Tick the box to enable location services.
Press Continue to Enable FileVault.
Follow the step on the screen to set up Touch ID.
When setting up Touch ID we recommend that you set up at least 2 fingerprints. Please note that, for security reasons, adding fingerprints of anyone other than yourself to Touch ID of any Booking.com device is not allowed. It is the equivalent of sharing your password, which is prohibited under any circumstances, as per the Acceptable Use Policy.
Choose your preferred look (can be changed later) and click Continue.
Your desktop will appear and within a minute your computer will proceed with installing the required Booking.com tools and applications.
Note that this window may be hidden behind another window.
The setup may take some time to complete.
During installation you may see a few notifications. Also the Self Service app may launch automatically and you may be prompted to log into Google Chrome and Google Drive. You can skip these steps for now, we will get back to them later.
Once the installation is complete, the below window will show.
Click Continue to complete the setup.
You can now proceed to the next section: II - Set up Okta Device Access.
Note: lease note that the full setup, including the installation of Booking.com applications, may take up to 30 minutes. If after that time you do not have Self Service or any other Booking.com apps installed there are some troubleshooting steps you can take. You can contact IT Support or go to the Additional Resources section at the end of the document. Additionally if any policies may have not been applied a notification will be displayed, please run this policies manually from the self service notification at a later time.
Okta Device Access allows you to sync your Okta Password with your Booking.com Mac, improving your user experience and password management.
During this process Okta FastPass is automatically configured.
When you Mac is ready for Device Access enrollment, the following notification will appear.
This may take a few minutes. Once you see the banner, please continue with the below process.

Click on the banner at the top right of your screen.
Click on Register to start the process.
Click Continue.
It will then ask you to authenticate as your existing local user.
You do NOT need to request temporary admin access through the Privileges app for this first.
Select Set up.
This will launch a web browser window. Log in to Okta, authenticate with your chosen MFA method. If you see the window below, Desktop Access is waiting for you to finish authenticating in the browser window.
Close the browser window after authenticating and click Enable to enable Touch ID.
If you do not want to use Biometrics, click Not Now. Note that disabling Biometrics will require you to enter your Password every time you need to authenticate with Okta FastPass.
Click Continue.
You will then be prompted to authenticate one more time, type in your Okta password.
Once you receive the final Okta notification, the password sync enrollment is complete.
If you didn’t get the final notification, you can confirm enrollment by following the steps below:
Navigate to System Settings.
2. Select Users & Groups.
3. Click on the i symbol to the right of your user account.
4. If the Okta Device Access is enrolled you will see Registered under Registration and SSO tokens present under Tokens along with green dots next to each.
Okta Device Access has now been successfully set up on your computer.
You can now proceed with the next section: III - Connect to the Booking.com office network with GlobalProtect.
In order to get access to the Booking.com systems, tools and services, you will need to establish a VPN connection with the Booking.com network. We will do this with GlobalProtect and Okta.
Note: If you do not have GlobalProtect installed, please note that it can take up to 30 minutes for the full setup and installations of Booking.com applications to finish. If after that time you still do not have GlobalProtect installed, you can install it yourself from the Self Service App:
Open Spotlight Search (⌘ + Space bar) and Search for Self Service.
In case you do not have Self Service installed, please contact IT Support.
Click the globe icon in the right-hand-side of the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click Connect.
Note: The default VPN portal address is gp.booking.com. In case you are working for BTL/Trips please connect to tbu-gp.booking.com.
Authenticate using Okta FastPass. A pop-up box will open asking you to use Touch ID.
Note: In case Touch ID was not enabled with Okta FastPass you will be asked to authenticate with your password and potentially a secondary MFA method.
Once connected you will see that in the GlobalProtect application.
If prompted, download the newest GlobalProtect version by clicking Download. Once downloaded click Install.
If you are not prompted, you laptop already has the latest version.
Once you have signed in for the first time GlobalProtect you will never have to start the program again through Spotlight Search. It will remain active and automatically establishes a connection any time it detects that you are not on our internal network. When authentication is needed (if it has been more than 8 hours since you have authenticated last), it will prompt you to authenticate by popping up the Okta Sign-in window again. If needed you can access it through the task bar.
When connected with GlobalProtect the VPN client automatically chooses the best available gateway to use by default. This is not necessarily the country that you live in. You can choose another one yourself at any time.
You can now proceed with the next section: IV - Log in to Chrome.
In order to get access to your Email, Calendar, Google Drive and other Booking.com web tools you will need to log into Chrome.
