Ever hear of a musical without songs? It just might make this madcap comedy a first!
Jules, Sydney, and Elliot have some big dreams. An up-and-coming musical team, they’ve rented a creaky old theater for six weeks to mount a production of their new show. Top Broadway investors are slated to attend, so the team is going to need every minute to rehearse the musical.
To their dismay, they discover that the theater is scheduled for demolition the very next day, and they don’t have the money to rent another venue! There’s only one thing to do: throw the show together in just two hours and present it to any investors who can make it on such short notice.
And so the rehearsal begins. But every time a performer gets ready to sing and the music starts to swell, someone bursts into the theater and cuts the song off! There’s the annoying child actor who desperately wants to be in the show, a group of very confused protesters, a pushy politician seeking a splashy photo op, and of course, the bumbling demo crew themselves.
The setting is the stage of a school auditorium where a schlock film director is wrapping up his latest epic, ’Monster On Campus.’ Enter Gloria Daily, fresh from her creative writing class, with an Indiana Jones-like script under her arm. Trailing behind her are members of the drama club who intend to ’act out’ the wild plot for the disagreeable film director. And what a plot! It concerns Hurricane Smith, famous explorer, whose mother was eaten by crocodiles and whose father disappeared in the Amazon jungles on a search for the fabled ’Garden of the Golden Monkey.’ Parentless, Hurricane is raised by a gorilla. Twenty years later a mysterious foreigner delivers a ’Golden Monkey’ to Hurricane, and the young adventurer sets out to discover its meaning. Also along on the dangerous trek is Linda Zest, a pretty and daring photo-journalist. Plane crashes! Parachute jumps! Bizarre jungle rites! (And that’s just for starters.) Did we forget to mention the Cobra People? The Pot of Death? The Pit of No Return? Well, you get the idea. It’ll be standing room only when Hurricane Smith heads for the jungle!

Life at Riverdale High is hard for our hero Rupert Lydecker. Most everyone, except the compassionate Claudia, considers him a loser. But we all know he’s not. He’s just terribly unsure of himself. So he takes it upon himself to visit the eerie hilltop asylum of the old and ancient Doctor Murdock Dangerfield. This creepy place is filled with the doc’s kooky experiments, everything from a two-headed teenager to a malfunctioning robot. A youth serum, in fact, has left our elderly scientist looking 14 years old! Hoping to change his personality, Rupert gulps down some icky goop, and we get to witness an amazing transformation: boy to hairy ’n scary beast!!! Talk about a confused teenager! Rupert’s peculiar drink was Werewolf Juice. Now enveloped in a new and exciting physical setting, our revitalized and confident Rupert hurries to the rockin’ and rollin’ Teen Canteen and punches out the school bully. He’s soon discovered by Daisy, a musical talent scout, and the fun roars on like a hot rod. Will Rupert return to being a normal teenager? (If there is such a thing!) Will Rupert and Claudia come to realize they were meant for one another?

The Meteorite Inn is located on a lonely stretch of desert highway. The owners of the shabby inn, Doug and his sister, Peggy, decide to capitalize on the fact that they’re close to a restricted zone known only as ’Area 502.’ (Rumor has it the government keeps an alien prisoner housed there!) The hotel’s dining room specialty becomes ’Marsburgers’ and they rent out the conference room to Hyacinth Muggleworth, a rather eccentric lady who’s holding a UFO convention. Before you can say ’Independence Day,’ the Meteorite Inn is overflowing with excited UFO believers and speakers who claim they’ve been abducted by aliens and held prisoner in spaceships! The army moves in and quarantines the place as ’aliens’ turn up uninvited. After all, who knows if they are real or fake? As the military continues to confuse matters, everyone gets involved: poor Mayor Mintweed goes cuckoo; Mabel Shoemaker, snapping string beans one minute, finds herself being jabbed with alien fingernails the next; Sheriff Chickamauga tries to figure things out as he munches on a doughnut. Will your audiences gasp as an alien autopsy is performed in front of their eyes? Will they shiver as an alien starship hovers overhead and visitors put their diabolical plans on ’forward’?
