Course Integrated Instruction
Introduction to Ebooks and Audiobooks
At the beginning of the school year (or at the beginning of a new term), teachers can bring their classes to the library for an orientation in which students are introduced to library policies and procedures and to the physical layout of the library. New students and staff can get an abbreviated version of this program at any time.
This course typically runs one class period or less. Students will receive instruction on how to access the library’s catalog, and how to access school databases. Students will also receive information about the library website and resources they can find on that site.
In this course students will get in-depth instruction into specific databases. This course is typically one or two class periods, depending on the amount of information addressed. The course will also define copyright laws and have limited training in citing work.
This is a one or two session class to talk about being a good digital citizen. Depending on the needs of the class, we will talk about laws that apply to the internet world and sharing of information, as well as netiquette and how to write an email.
In this course students will be using and evaluating web search tools and websites. They will learn how to find reliable sources on the internet, and how to know if a site is credible. We will delve into specific sites that align to their classwork.
Any of the above offerings can be tailored to specific class needs in any subject. The librarian can also come to classrooms to assist with research and information resources. Course integrated instruction will need more preparation time for the librarian, so please plan accordingly.
