MoDAL 2020

Welcome

Welcome to the 5th annual Modeling and Data Analysis Summer Institute. The Boise State Regional Math Center - with funding from the Idaho State Department of Education - is excited to be providing an entirely online, asynchronous professional development experience for Idaho's grades 6-12 math and science teachers.

This year’s program is ONLINE June 15th-25th , and is designed for both MATH and SCIENCE Grades 6-12

teachers . Participants will:

  • explore important science phenomena through data analysis activities,
  • connect those phenomena to grade-band math and science standards, and
  • develop related teaching materials for use in participants’ classrooms.

The scientific phenomena are:

  1. Metabolic Rates: Identifying patterns in the flows of energy through organisms.
  2. Snow Precipitation: Analyzing timing and location of snow accumulation in Idaho.
  3. Wildfire Ecology: Interpreting fire events in the context of invasive plant cover.
  4. Constant Acceleration: Investigate how gravity affects the movement of objects
Course Structure: Boise State MoDAL 2020

Course Structure

Workshop Groups: We have over 100 grades 6-12 math and science teachers involved in MoDAL this year.

Course Structure: There is a brief introduction module and then 4 additional modules each focused on a different science context. SECTION 1: LEARN of each module focuses on learning more about the science context and SECTION 2: TEACH of each module focuses on classroom implementation. We anticipate each module (1-4) will take 7-8 hours to complete.
