KEYNOTE WITH Q&A

Weaving Together Universal Strands in a Foundation of Learning

Join Todd D. Zakrajsek to discuss what makes a true "foundation" for learning. Emerging from a global pandemic is a time for reflection, and we are not compelled to return to what we did before. We have an opportunity to create new ways to guide students to be serious learners, now and in their future lives. It all starts with a solid general education foundation - a general education that includes every course a student takes and every person teaching those courses.

This may all sound complex, but the good news is that a few common strands form the base that will allow students to determine their own paths as learners, like activating prior learning and metacognition (thinking about their own learning). In this session, we will look at universal strands that set students up to build a strong foundation of knowledge and develop the skills to become the person we know they can be.
