"College is what you make of it. If you are looking for that, you can definitely find it. We are a dry and smoke-free campus so the campus makes sure there are lots of events, organizations, and activities on campus. Also with being in a Capital city, there is a lot to do downtown! Saturday markets, athletic events, movies, restaurants, concerts, etc.!"
Boise is a very safe city with some of the lowest crime rates in the country.
We have 75 blue lights poles around campus where students can hit the blue lights if they feel unsafe while walking and a police officer will be there in under 3 minutes. We also utilize the Guardian App and Bronco Alert texting systems which are run by the Boise State Safety Office.

Our most common crime is bike theft, so be sure to lock your bikes up with a u-lock to help prevent this.
Residence halls require key card access that is only granted to the students who live in that building. This helps with safety and security access into each hall.
The University has taken many important steps toward increasing our graduation/retention rates and supporting our students. It is important to note that our student body has become more traditional in the past ten years! Retention rates count from the time that a University began, so our more recent years since transforming into a more traditional university has changed those rates significantly! We offer orientation programs to make sure students get a strong start, as well as we offer a Finish in Four program that ensures the student will graduate in four years - of our students who participate in this over 70% have a four-year graduation rate! The fact that our class sizes are small, we have many different resources for students, and that we do not have any impacted programs helps this!
Back when Boise State was a Junior College we had more of a reputation of being a commuter school. In years since though, Boise State has grown exponentially and has created a more traditional University culture. The majority of our students (67%) live on campus their first year and the average incoming age of freshmen is 18.6 which is very traditional!
Boise State is an extremely diverse place, and that’s what makes it great! We have students from all 50 states and 65 different countries. We have over 200 clubs and organizations open to all types of people and all affiliations - one of the best parts of college is experiencing new perspectives and opinions which is something you will find at all Universities!
Boise State University is not affiliated with any specific religion and we do allow all students and members of the community to equally represent themselves on campus through academic, athletic, extracurricular, and religious clubs. Due to the fact that we are a public university, we welcome the Boise community on our campus for many events across campus, like football games, performances in the Morrison Center, etc. Ultimately, we truly enjoy having a diverse campus and love having visitors!
