What is a school counseling group? School counseling groups are topical, skill-based small groups with the school counselor. They typically run for 6-8 weeks once a week for 30 minutes during the school day. Students learn & practice new skills, interact with peers, and gain support from other peers when they participate in a counseling group. Counseling groups are optional and require written parent permission in order for a student to participate. After the last group session, students will bring home a folder with all of their activities, reflection and learning from the school counseling group.
What school counseling groups are offered? Groups generally start after conferences (early November), though a group may start earlier if enough students are signed up. The groups that are available this year are FRIENDSHIP group, EMOTION CONTROL group, and STUDY SKILLS group. Click the button below for the parent permission slip if you are interested in having your child participate in a group. This can be printed and returned to me, sent back to school in your child's backpack, or emailed in. Let me know if you'd like more information about any of these groups.
