AVID 7

AVID 7 is the foundation builder of the AVID Elective. All core aspects of AVID up to AVID 12 starts in AVID 7. That means we focus a signifigant part of the start of AVID 7 learning how to do these skills well. They include many of the "soft skills" that can help support the AVID student within their core classes. It will also set them up for success as they continue to enroll in rigorous classes including options like our AP Human Geography class at Les Bois.

Below is a typical week in the AVID elective. This is subject to change.

Team building typically takes place on Fridays. Binder & Agenda Organization can happen any day.

Below are the major objectives for each semester for the AVID 7 Elective.

  • 1st Semester

  • Major Objectives: Building the habit of using the binder; Encouraging school involvement; Introduction to Focused Note-taking and Tutorials; Building camaraderie among the students

  • Major Objectives: Introductions to Costa’s levels of thinking

  • Major Objectives: Complete the “My Memoir” Descriptive Essay unit, Digital Presentations

  • Major Objectives: Exposure to other post secondary school options. Career Unit.

  • 2nd Semester

  • Major Objectives: Complete a Resume. Write a letter to a college. Create a college Pennant.

  • Major Objectives: Exposure to college options through “Exploring College Options” Research Unit. Expository Essay about College Research. Create a college poster, give oral presentations about college research.

  • Major Objectives: Introduction to Public Speaking. Give an impromptu Speech.

  • AVID 7 Field Trip. Must maintain a 2.0 1st semester in order to attend field trip.

  • Major Objectives: Research Unit: Impactful topics on our world. Create a game to share with the class that illustrates your topic.
