Are treats allowed for birthdays?
Yes! We love to celebrate birthdays! Please send or bring your treats in BEFORE noon so they may take them to the cafeteria and enjoy them in the lunchroom. Things to keep in mind: We do have one student with nut allergies. Our class size may change during the year. Currently, we have 28 students . Summer birthday? Feel free to send treats for a celebration on a convenient day for the family. It can be the half birthday, or any other day of your choosing.
My child told me they could bring a snack, what are the guidelines?
Students can bring a snack to enjoy before lunch. We take a quick break around 10:00 and I allow students to eat a SMALL snack with the understanding that it should neither detract for the learning environment, nor be unhealthy or messy. Candy or high sugar items will not be allowed. Fresh vegetables, dry cereal, trail mix, or even a single package of fruit snacks are approved. Since we continue to work while we snack, please do not send salty/ greasy snacks such as chips. The residue on fingers ends up on papers and clothing. It also increases the student's thirst and need to use the restroom. I allow 5 minutes to snack and then anything remaining is saved for their lunch.
Helpers - will there be opportunities to help out in the classroom?
Yes! we will have 3 field trips this year and we will need chaperones. We may have some in class projects that will need extra helpers for as well. For those of you who cannot make it during the day, there will be a list going home of simple items that we will need for some engineering projects. I am still in need of a room parent to help out with parties. Since we have 4 parties (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day and year end) I have had parents split the responsibilities and choose one party they are interested in helping out with. Please let me know if this is something you are interested in.
