The GATE pull-out program is one part of an array of services offered to gifted and talented students in the Boise School District, serving academically and intellectually gifted and talented students in grades 1-6. The pull-out program allows students to attend a weekly GATE day in a quadrant school. The focus for pull out differs from the more academic siblings, full time and highly gifted. In the pull-out program, students will explore the universal themes of innovation, creativity, exploration, ethics, relationship, and wisdom. Students are asked to think deeply about the themes and how they play a role in their own lives. These units will be coupled with opportunities for project-based learning where students can use and develop skills in creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, communication, collaboration, engineering, social and emotional learning, and the arts. Our aim is to expose students to an abundant array of topics and experiences, so that as they learn and grow, they become more aware of themselves and how they contribute to their world.
The GATE pull-out program provides students time each week to interact with intellectual peers and provides an extended block of time for students to engage in hands-on activities that relate to real-world issues. Students are challenged to consistently utilize critical thinking skills, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication.
