Our mission at Hawthorne PTO is to foster a vibrant and supportive community by building strong relationships between home and school.
We are dedicated to supporting our teachers, enhancing educational experiences, and creating opportunities that benefit students, staff, and families alike.
Through collaboration and engagement, we strive to enrich the learning environment and empower everyone involved in our school community.
PTO Board '24-25
Tara Pilato, Preschool teacher at Garfield, mother of 2
Presides over PTO meetings, creates and distributes the agenda, and checks on monthly action items
Serves as liaison between PTO and Administration/Staff
Serves as an official member on all subcommittees and acts as a tie-breaking vote
Submits new budget requests from the school to the Vice President and Treasurer to be added to the following years budget
Ability to sign contracts and checks, cannot be a School District employee
Submits information to the Staff Weekly memo, PTO monthly newsletter, and Hawk Talk
Collaborates with administration and staff to create a yearly calendar of events
Michelle Salazar, Activities & Club lead, mother of 2
Serves on the Executive Board and attends monthly meetings
Assumes responsibilities and duties as called on by the PTO President
Works closely with the PTO President in planning and executive administration
Ability to sign contracts and checks
Represents and supports all Hawthorne Elementary PTO and school events
Steps in to lead and/or support any committee that hasn’t been filled for the school year
Works with President and Treasurer to create a budget for the following calendar year to be approved by the PTO
Stephanie Owens, Interventional Radiologist, mother of 4
Serves on the Executive Board and attends monthly meetings
Collects, deposits, and disburses all funds according to the budget
Maintains a current record of income, expenditures, and assets
Presents a financial report of income and expenses at each PTO meeting
Prepares a year-end financial report, and files all required tax forms
Knowledge of bookkeeping, finance, or accounting a plus, but not required
Oversees VP and Committee Chairs when needed, by giving budgetary status updates at the Executive Board meetings
Works with the President and Vice President to create a budget for the following calendar year to be approved by the PTO

Records the minutes of all PTO meetings & assigns action items to individuals
Translates minutes and distributes them to Executive Board members, as well as maintains an archive of the current year’s minutes and other important documents
