What is IGNITE?
I.G.N.I.T.E 6-8 is a summer program designed for current 6th-8th graders who meet the qualifications outlined below. Students participate in a half-day experience that strengthens their English and Math skills through engaging, hands-on, real-world activities. The program aims to spark their passion for learning while fostering new friendships and peer connections. Additionally, I.G.N.I.T.E. equips students with critical thinking skills to support their success in the upcoming school year and beyond.
Criteria
Enrolled in a Boise School District during 2024-2025 School Year
6th graders qualify based on Iready/Istation/classroom evidence showing below grade level performance
Not passing grades in Math or ELA.
7th & 8th graders qualify based on:
OR
At-Risk Eligibility (per Idaho Code §33-1001(3):
THREE of the following :
Has repeated at least one grade
Has absenteeism greater than 10% during the current or proceding semester
Has an overall grade point average that is less than 1.5 (4.0) scale prior to enrolling in the alternative high school summer program
Has failed one or more core academic subjects in the past year
Is below proficient based on local criteria and/or state standardized tests
Is two or more semester credits per year behind the rate required to graduate or for grade promotion
Has attended three (3) or more schools within the previous two (2) years, not including dual enrollment
OR
ONE of the the following
Has a documented pattern of substance abuse
Is pregnant or is a parent
Is an emancipated student
Is a previous drop-out
Has serious personal, emotional, or medical problems
Has a court or agency referral
Demonstrates behavior that is detrimental to their academic progress (Documented targeted interventions that have not been successful. Behavior associated with physical or sexual abuse; significant loss or traumatic incident wherein the student exhibits emotional problems that hinder academic progress.)
Criteria for Multilingual Learners
Enrolled in 6th-8th grade in Boise School District during the 2024-2025 School Year
Student has entered the country after 8/31/22
Student demonstrates English proficiency at a level <2.9 in reading or writing on their last WIDA screener or ACCESS test.
Available Courses
These courses do not follow the scope and sequence of the school year curriculum. We work with community partners such as The Cabin, BSU, Lee Pesky and others to provide an engaging, hands on experience.
6th Graders: ELA 6, STEM, PE, English Language Development
7th Graders: ELA 7, Math 7, PE, English Language Development
8th Graders: ELA 8, Math 8, PE, English Language Development
