The construction trades academy started at BOIC in 2022 . It is designed to teach students  basic construction skills and the safe use of tools and equipment and machinery.   Students partake in construction projects around the school and with the recent addition of containers and canopies have also started on building small sleepouts.

Our objective is to help students gain skills and knowledge  about the construction trades, with the aim of them becoming work ready when they leave school.

Students gain construction skills and become adept at using many tools and understanding concepts of construction giving them an advantage over other school leavers that have done little or no construction work, thus making them more  appealing to employers . Our academy focuses on developing both technical skills and workplace readiness. Students master the safe use of tools, equipment, and machinery while learning fundamental construction concepts. Through collaborative projects, they develop the teamwork and communication skills essential for success in the construction industry.

When available, our students will also spend one day a week out on-site with the appropriately qualified tradesperson. Through this we hope to give them a better understanding of what the job entails, and help them build connections with the industry that they hope to be part of when they finish their schooling.
