Why is safety important?
The number one lesson that you will need to learn is how to behave safely in a workshop environment.
When we are in the workshop, we operate on a high trust model. This means the teacher needs to trust you, and you need to trust the teacher. If this trust is not present, then you will struggle to learn and create in the workshop.
How you behave when the teacher is not looking is important!
Wear closed shoes when in the workshop. Tie up loose hair if you have long hair. Roll up you sleeves if you have baggy clothing.
Wear PPE that will be provided when necessary.
Only use machines if you have been given training.
Do not run around in the workshop.
Do not throw things in the workshop.
Respect the tools and the workshop.
No speakers or Mobile phones.
It is a workshop, not a sit shop. You will be expected to work.
Keep things tidy. Always tidy up after yourself.
Make sure you can always see the teacher and you are able to hear him.
Following the workshop rules benefits all parties involved. The students will be safe and looked after, and the teacher wont have trouble teaching and guiding students.
If a student willfully and repeatedly breaks the workshop rules they will be removed from the subject.
Injuries will occur. There is no way to avoid them as it is part of the learning experience. However, if you do get injured please follow the procedure below.
Inform your teacher of the injury.
The teacher will asses your injury and your medical state and give you proper instruction in how to proceed.
If needed, you will be given permission to head to the student center for first aid.
If the injury was moderate to severe, an accident form will be filled out.
If the injury was purposefully inflicted, either by yourself or another student, there will be severe consequences.
Complete the following safety lessons as best as possible. You will be doing these in class with the teacher the first time.
