Kaio Company is named after Bay of Islands College old boy, Colonel James Kaio. Col Kaio is currently the Commander of Training and Doctrine Command New Zealand who oversee all training within the New Zealand Army.
Hooson Platoon is named after Captain Jonty Hooson, RNZAC. Capt Hooson was Deputy Head Boy of Bay College in 2011 and Head Boy in 2012. Capt Hooson joined the Army in 2014 as an Officer and was offered a place at Royal Military College in Australia to continue his officers training where he graduated in 2015 as a Lieutenant. Since then he has served with Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles.

Kopa Platoon is named after ex-student Warrant Officer Class 1 Noema Kopa, RNZSig. WO1 Kopa has served with the New Zealand Army for many years in a variety of roles. She is currently the Regimental Sergeant Major for the 1st NZ Signals Regiment.

Wiremu Company is named after Bay of Islands College old boy, the late Staff Sergeant Willy (Wiremu) Williams, RNZA.
SSGT Williams had a long career in the NZDF serving primarily with 16 Field Regiment, RNZA. He is remembered by most through his role as Training Sergeant with the School of Artillery. SSGT Williams oversaw the training of many Gunners, who he inspired in many ways. SSGT Williams was a hard man who taught you the value of hard work and to persevere through difficulties and not letting excuses be a way out.

Dephoff Platoon is named after ex-student Constable Roger Dephoff. Constable Dephoff served in the New Zealand Army with 16 Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery. Since retiring from the Army, Roger has continued to serve both our country and his community through his service with both the New Zealand Police and with the Kawakawa Volunteer Fire Brigade. Constable Dephoff is also a member of our Board of Trustees.
Dephoff platoon is the second stage of the course, Arataki 2.0. It is a continuation of the lessons and skills learnt on Arataki 1. Students who reach this stage are taught that a leaders job is never done. Though you have reached the top of the hill and graduated Arataki 1, the mountain remains unconquered. Arataki 2.0 takes several steps up in difficulty and expectation.
Reihana Platoon is named after ex-student Staff Sergeant Arihi Reihana, RNZA. SSGT Reihana currently serves in the New Zealand Army with 16 Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery. She has the privilege of working within our community as the current NZDF Recruiter for the Northern Area.
