What it’s for: Managing your child’s iPad during home use.
Available for iOS users only.
Many home internet routers include built-in parental control features. These allow you to manage how and when your child can access the internet on all devices connected to your home Wi-Fi, such as iPads, phones, laptops, and games consoles.
Please note: If your child is using mobile data (4G or 5G), their internet access is not affected by your home router or Wi-Fi parental control settings.
Step 1: Find your router’s login details
Most routers have a label on the back or bottom showing:
The router address (often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1)
A username
A password
Step 2: Log in to the router settings
Make sure your device is connected to your home Wi-Fi.
Open a web browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge)
Type the router address into the address bar
Enter the username and password from the router label
This opens the router’s settings interface (sometimes called the “admin panel”).
Step 3: Set up parental controls
Depending on the router model, you may be able to:
Set time limits (for example, no internet after 9pm)
Block certain websites or content types
Pause internet access for specific devices
Create different rules for different children
Changes usually apply immediately to all devices using your home Wi-Fi.
Please note: If your child is using mobile data (4G or 5G), their internet access is not affected by your home router or Wi-Fi parental control settings.
