Successful completion of English III HonorsCourse Description:
The Senior Course is offered at the Honors level (4). The goals and objectives for the class are aligned to the Common Core Standards. The language program of the senior course builds on the skills taught in the first three years and challenges students to refine writing skills in preparation for researching, developing, and documenting a thesis topic in an extended, critical paper. Coursework includes oral and written communication of impressions and judgments of assigned readings in the essay and allied genres. The course emphasizes the building of an active vocabulary and correct sentence and paragraph structure, and literature, essay, and allied genres with composition instruction and practice. Writing a research paper is required. This course meets the requirements of the State of Florida “Gordon Rule.” The literature program examines the literary contributions of influential writers from Greek to modern times with emphasis on current British and American writers. Students will be expected to handle increasingly sophisticated materials and develop skills in the analysis and evaluation of literature.Special Notes:

The Senior Course is offered in level 5 (Advanced Placement). The goals and objectives of this AP course are aligned to the College Board Curriculum Standards. The Advanced Placement English Language and Composition course offers students the opportunity to read and learn how to carefully analyze a broad range of challenging nonfiction prose, deepening their awareness of the purpose and effectiveness of rhetoric. Close reading and frequent writing will help students develop their ability to work with both text and language, while also strengthening their own composition skills. Course readings will feature expository, analytical, personal and argumentative texts from a variety of authors, over a range of centuries. Students will be challenged to become skilled readers of prose in a variety of periods, disciplines, rhetorical contexts, and to become skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes.Special Notes:
