Seedfolks Essay
Seedfolks, By Paul Fleischman, is a beautiful story of a neighborhood and the birth of a garden from an abandoned, trash filled lot. People from diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, ages and perspectives, come together to create a community garden. As people work in the garden, they become interconnected. Stereotypes are broken, racism is challenged and people finally see one another for who they are. Each chapter is told from a different characters' perspective and tells the story of their life. In this essay, students were asked to chose a character that challenged their thinking or perspective. A character who made them think differently about something, someone or the world.
Our students have worked hard all year, crafting cohesive essays, using the text to back up their ideas and theories. They have learned about structure and craft and have built up a lot of stamina. They revise with care and consideration and articulate themselves beautifully. Once again, we are proud. Their writing is strong and their ideas are thoughtful.
Enjoy!
