SPS Online Teaching Essentials (OTE) Workshop

Next Session: January 3 - January 23, 2023

The CUNY School of Professional Studies (SPS) will be offering another session of their Online Teaching Essentials workshop this fall. The workshop will be conducted asynchronously in Blackboard. The session will run January 3 to January 23, with registration open through December 14.

The workshop focuses on best practices in online pedagogy and flexible use of online teaching resources in any modality, from fully asynchronous online to hybrid, flipped, and blended modalities. The major topics covered are Understanding the Online Learning Environment, Inclusive Teaching, Backward Design & Effective Assessment, Online Presence & Engagement, and Communicating & Interacting Online. The workshop’s final project is to create a syllabus and course schedule for an upcoming online or hybrid course. Faculty can find more information on the Online Teaching Essentials Workshop site.

Faculty are eligible to receive a $500 stipend if they complete all requirements of the course and have not previously completed one of the following in 2019 or later: SPS Online Teaching Essentials, SPS Preparation for Teaching Online, or CUNY/Western Governors University’s “Bringing the Classroom to the Screen.” Experience using Blackboard is a prerequisite for taking the course.

If you wish to participate, please complete the Online Teaching Essentials Interest Form no later than December 14. The form requires that you sign in with your complete “@login.cuny.edu” account (instructions here on accessing the form). There is limited space in the course, so we cannot guarantee that there will be spots for all those interested. You should be notified by the SPS team if you are enrolled in the course.
