BMCC faculty have the opportunity to participate in a 25-week course on Effective Teaching Practices starting in February 2022. This course addresses both in-person and online teaching practices. Effective Teaching Practices will be delivered fully online in an asynchronous format and facilitated by a BMCC faculty member. The course is designed by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), and offered to BMCC through grant funding. It will be organized into five major areas of practice:
Designing an Effective Course
Establishing a Productive Learning Environment
Using Active Learning Strategies
Promoting Higher Order Thinking
Assessing to Inform Instruction and Promote Learning
Faculty who complete the course will receive a $250 stipend and earn the full ACUE Effective Teaching Practices certification, a nationally recognized Certificate in Effective College Instruction, endorsed by the American Council on Education (ACE). They will also earn digital badges along the way, which can be added to curriculum vitae, used in online teaching portfolios, and displayed on LinkedIn profiles or other sites. Faculty who previously completed an ACUE course are not eligible to participate in this course.
The course begins February 14, 2022, and runs for a total of 25 weeks spread across the spring and fall of 2022, with a break over the summer. Faculty members spend approximately 2-3 hours of time per week in the course. Please email any questions to Tom Harbison at tharbison@bmcc.cuny.edu.
