TIPS FOR NEW MUSICIANS
Do NOT allow other children to play your instrument.
Find a safe place to store your instrument. Keep it away from heat or cold especially heaters and air conditioners.
Instruments can still be damaged even when they are in a sturdy case. Do NOT drop or slide cases. Cellos are particularly fragile as the cases are soft, and therefore provide less protection.
Keep your instrument in the closed case when not being played.
Do NOT try to move the pegs-you might break a string.
Do NOT try to move/adjust the bridge. If it falls down, the teacher will reset it.
There is a “Sound Post” inside the instrument. If it falls down, please save the piece and return it along with the instrument to the music store for repair.
Be careful with the BOW. It can be delicate and expensive to repair/replace. Always tighten your bow when you are ready to play and always loosen your bow when finished playing. DO NOT TOUCH THE BOW HAIR WITH YOUR HAND. The oils from your skin will leave a residue on the hair.
Keep your instrument clean & dry. Do NOT use furniture polish…it will create a wax build up.
Keep a positive attitude about Progress. Some students progress very quickly while others move more slowly. Consistent dedication is the key to success. Find a quiet place to have daily practice sessions. The fewer the distractions, the greater the progress.
