Chamber Orchestra

(Chambers Symphonic Orchestra) Open to all grades 9-12. This elite level audition orchestra will perform at concerts throughout the year, including the full orchestra concert in May, as well as the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival (or another Festival equivalent), and have the option to participate in the KSHSAA Solo/Small Ensemble Festival in the Spring. Students must audition for this ensemble as it is considered AP level, with MOST students taking private lessons. Prerequisites: must have completed at least two years of middle school orchestra and can demonstrate the skill level necessary to perform the programmed literature for this course. Literature performed will be of the professional/collegiate level for concerts. Placement Auditions take place in March. (3rd Hour).

Symphonic Orchestra

Grades 9-12. This intermediate level audition orchestra will perform at concerts throughout the year, including the full orchestra concert in May, as well as the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival (or another Festival equivalent), and have the option to participate in the KSHSAA Solo/Small Ensemble Festival in the Spring. Students must audition for this ensemble as it is considered honors level, with many students taking private lessons. Prerequisites: must have completed at least two years of middle school orchestra and can demonstrate the skill level necessary to perform the programmed literature for this course. Placement Auditions take place in March. (4th Hour).

Concert Orchestra

Grades 9-12. This non-audition orchestra is strings only orchestra for the entire year. Designed as a preparatory experience for membership in Symphonic Orchestra. This experience is educational, challenging and rewarding with a focus on developing each members performance skills to the highest level possible. This ensemble will perform at concerts throughout the year, and students have the option to participate in the KSHAA Solo/Small Ensemble Festival in the spring. Select members could possibly participate in the Full Orchestra performance at the May Concert based on their participation throughout the year and if they can demonstrate the skill level necessary to perform the programmed literature for the concert. Prerequisite: must have completed at least two years of middle school orchestra. (5th Hour).

Mustang Musicians

Open to all grades 9-12. This extra-curricular, student led ensemble meets before school. They rehearse themselves, select their music, and book their own gigs. Outreach performances are done at elementary and middle schools as well as senior centers around the city, in addition to a performance at the coffee shop night. Prerequisites: must be able to demonstrate the skill level necessary to perform the programmed literature for this ensemble.
