As we approach the beginning of a new school year, I hope that you had an excellent summer and are excited to begin another year at Archbold Area Schools! Last year was unique and we are incredibly thankful and proud of our students, staff, parents, and community for their support and patience as we navigated one of the most challenging school years of our time. We were one of the few districts in the State of Ohio that provided in-person education for the duration of the year, and I believe all of our students benefited greatly from the academic and social aspects of the accomplishment.
In order to provide in-person education, our district was required to make several procedural changes, and again, we are thankful for those who made sacrifices. Thankfully, 2020-21 is behind us and our hope is that we can return to many of the pre-pandemic protocols. While the safety, health, and well-being of all will remain our top priority, our goal is to make the 2021-22 school year as normal as possible for students, staff, and families.
I would like to commend our maintenance staff for all the work they have done preparing our buildings for the upcoming year and the teachers who have also been preparing plans to continue providing Archbold students with a first-class education.
Archbold Schools have the privilege of welcoming a couple new staff members to our district.
Please review the Staff Updates within the online newsletter to find out additional information about the new staff members at Archbold Area Schools. We are excited about these new additions joining an already excellent team.
Over the past year and a half, our students and staff have realized the incredible benefits that technology offers education. The district is in the second year of a Curriculum, Instruction, Technology, Integration Assessment (CITIA), which has been timely with the recent demands of remote-learning. One of the results of this assessment is the addition of a technology coach. This position will support the teaching and support staff in the areas of technology and instruction, ensuring that students and staff have access to the best resources available and the ability to utilize those resources in an appropriate and efficient manner.
An area that Archbold Area Schools has identified as a critical area of need is mental health counseling. This need has only been exacerbated by the last 18 months. We are pleased to announce that through a partnership with Four County Career Center and ProMedica, our district will add a mental health counselor to our staff. This position will be shared with Four County Career Center and funded using Student Wellness and Success Funds from the State of Ohio. This position will offer much needed support to our excellent guidance staff by specializing in the area of mental health and working with students who need additional support outside of a school guidance counselor.
Our school district is committed to serving our students and community, should you ever need anything from our staff, please contact your child’s teacher, building principal, or our central office.
We look forward to seeing your children on August 25th. I hope you have a great school year and Go Bluestreaks!
