Dear Parents of Ms. Lynch's Fourth Grade Scholars,
I thought I would take this opportunity to share a little about myself in hopes of opening up communication between school and home. In the weeks to come I will have more information on the day-to-day of fourth grade and how our classroom typically runs.
To complete my undergraduate studies at Montana State University (GO BOBCATS!), I ventured to Ireland for student teaching. Since then I have traveled near and far including Iceland, England, Jordan, Peru, Egypt, Alaska, to numerous other countries and regions, and several times to my favorite place on the planet, Glacier National Park. Upon returning to Montana, I spent six years teaching and creating curriculum for the Montana Outdoor Science School. This experience lead to me to obtain my Masters in Science Education; which I get to use in the classroom and at the Montana Learning Center during the summer months. Since completing my Masters, I have spent the past ten years teaching in both one-room school houses and large school districts in grades 2-8. I am excited to teach fourth grade at Sunnyside Elementary; the combination of strong academics, fantastic community, and chance to return to my hometown make this the ideal place for me.
Each summer I make an effort to get out of the house and explore the world around me, sometimes that means a week-long river trip in our great state with my faithful dog, Flora, or an international excursion. Regardless of my destination, I make sure that I'm able to share part of my experience with my students. One of the aspects of fourth grade that I am particularly excited about it the opportunity to share my love of Montana with my students. In an effort to generate excitement for the upcoming school year and connect with students, you may periodically see a slide show/mystery in my Google Classroom about some of my adventures. For example, the summer of 2019 I was selected as a volunteer English teacher and got to travel to Spain to teachers of English from around Europe; I got to help my fellow teaching professionals refine their English so they could better teach their students! The summer of 2021 I was selected as one of twelve educators from across the United States to become a Master Teacher with Project Archaeology, which I am ecstatic to share with my students this year.
Beyond the four walls of the classroom you might be able to catch me paddling my board with a black lab, hiking local trails, paddling or rowing a river, or patrolling the slopes at Bear Paw Ski Bowl--or even providing lessons for new skiers. My favorite place to be is outside with Flora.
I look forward this school year, bumps and all, and of course can't wait to get to know your fourth grader.
Sincerely,
Ms. Lynch
