I want to share how late work and assignment retakes are handled in our classroom so expectations are clear for students and families.
I understand that students are sometimes absent due to illness or other important reasons. When a student is out sick or simply needs a little extra time to finish an assignment, I gladly accept late work. The goal is always learning, not penalties.
Students are also allowed to redo assignments. Before doing so, they must complete the Retake Request Form in Google Classroom. This form helps students reflect on:
What they missed the first time
What they will do differently
How they prepared to be more successful
This ensures the second attempt is meaningful and supports real learning.
Please note that late work is not updated in the gradebook immediately when it is turned in.
Assignments turned in on time are graded in class sets (“batched”), which allows for quick and efficient feedback. Late work, however, must be graded individually outside of that system, which takes significantly more time.
Because of this:
Late work updates may take several days to appear in the gradebook.
Work turned in 3–4 weeks late cannot reasonably expect a 24-hour grade update.
I truly appreciate your patience and understanding as I work to give thoughtful feedback while also keeping up with current classwork.
Thank you for partnering with me to support your child’s learning!
In the final portion of our day, we do a daily reflection on our learning. We write down the things about our day that made us G.L.A.D. to be at school. We each write one thing that made us Grateful, one thing that was Learned, one thing that was Accomplished, and something that Delighted us.
***For any spelling lists with Montana geography names we'll work on the locations in class, please practice the spellings at home. ***
