Psychoeducational-Neuropsychological-Developmental Evaluations: by referral only- fax to 321 914 0010
Blue Cat offers early developmental assessments for toddlers and children from as early as 30 months up until age five. Please be aware that screening evaluations (a valuable step in identifying the need for further testing) may be available at no cost through the resources listed below.
A neuropsychological evaluation may be requested by your child's pediatrician due to questions of developmental delays (e.g., language, social, or motor).
In Florida and many other states, there are well-developed screening networks for autism and other developmental anomalies. Your pediatrician will likely be up-to-date with the appropriate local resources for children. These screening resources are usually available at no cost.
Florida Early Steps screens children from birth to age three. Call 800-218-0001 for your local office or visit https://www.spacecoastes.org/
FDLRS-East Child Find, in coordination with Brevard Schools, locates children ages three to five who are potentially eligible for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and links them with needed services. A state-wide directory can be found at https://www.fdlrs.org/find-a-center, and Brevard County services can be reached at 321-633-1000 ext. 11552.
When should you suspect that your child is "running behind" in development?
The truth is, there is a wide range of variability in development. What is "normal" for most may not apply to your unique child.
For comprehensive guidelines, see the chart at https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html – they also have a free app.
If you still suspect a problem, your first stop should be the pediatrician, who is trained to screen for many disorders of childhood and will investigate possible medical causes.
In most cases, the pediatrician will make a referral to a neuropsychologist if it appears to be needed.
Our testing instruments used in this age range include the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, the Differential Ability Scales (DAS-II), and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS®-2).
The evaluation of children is a technically demanding task that requires specific training. Please be sure that you entrust your child's assessment only to qualified individuals.
