Lucky has been our inspiration ever since he adopted us several years ago as a kitten rescued from the park. Lucky has taught us that patience and perseverance will break down barriers, both physically and metaphorically. He has reminded us that intelligence is not exclusively a human characteristic. It is the measure of an individual's ability to adapt and function in the environment in which they are placed. And, most of all, Lucky has shown us that if you hope to build rapport, a relationship, and an understanding of another living being, you will need to allow plenty of time.
We highly recommend that you consider adopting a pet if you have not already and can do so. In Brevard County, see the following:
Dr. Harcourt is licensed (FL PY11983) as a Clinical Psychologist. He is authorized to practice in 40 States and jurisdictions in the US through the PSYPACT commission (Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology, APIT #16313, issued 2023). Please see www.verifyPSYPACT.org for additional information.
Dr. Harcourt has resided on the Space Coast of Florida for more than 40 years. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Central Florida, interned at NASA, and worked in engineering for almost twenty years.
He got... well... bored with it all and went back to school to earn an M.S. in Psychology with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis. He practiced as a behavior analyst for a few years, before realizing the limitations of having just one tool (although a very good tool).
So, he bought a more extensive toolbox, returning to school for a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Neuropsychology from Nova Southeastern University (NSU). His mentor there was Dr. Charles J. Golden, author of the Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luria%E2%80%93Nebraska_Neuropsychological_Battery) and one of the prime movers in the development of neuropsychology as a clinical science.
During Dr. Harcourt's doctoral training, he completed rotations at the NSU Psychological Services for the Emotionally Distressed clinic (focusing on schizophrenia and bipolar/mood disorders), Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami (focusing on the neuropsychology of epilepsy), the Neuropsychology Assessment Center at NSU, and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (MSOM) Neurology Department.
His predoctoral internship was with the University of Missouri Department of Health Sciences, with rotations in neuropsychology, substance use disorders, bariatrics, rehabilitation, and developmental disabilities at the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment.
He then completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Miami MSOM in the Neurology Department, with interdisciplinary training in the assessment of patients with epilepsy, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, ontological diagnoses, and memory disorders.
He continues to perform postdoctoral research into movement disorders (primarily Parkinson's disease) and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict cognitive outcomes due to white matter disease with UMiami MSOM.
