NOTICE: Milk Cartons and Juice Boxes Can Now Be Recycled! Please Do Not Add Milk Cartons To Organics.
The training slide decks below can be facilitated by a teacher or principal as part of an assembly, or by individual teachers in their respective classroom as part of a lesson or even on the first day of school.
Every slide deck includes presenter notes that can be read like a script and include discussion prompts and extension activities to make the learning experience as valuable and interdisciplinary as possible.
Time: 20 minutes
This presentation reminds students why it is important to separate organics from the landfill-bound waste stream and how to do it correctly. Choose to watch one or both videos embedded in the slides to help deepen students understanding and then review the step-by-step process for waste sorting.
These resources were developed for the benefit of Woodland schools by Blueblossom Consulting and funded by the City of Woodland through grants awarded to Woodland by CalRecycle.
Blueblossom Consulting will be developing a K-12 curriculum guide during the 2024-2025 school year. This curriculum guide will incorporate hands-on, interdisciplinary lesson plans and activities centered on waste prevention and diversion in Yolo County. Teachers, administrators, and district staff who would like to provide input on this resource, specifically to help fill curriculum gaps or needs, should contact Allison Martin at allison@blueblossomconsulting.com.
