advising

Counselors are available at William Blount High School to provide assistance with educational advising, career and college planning, individual counseling, and consultation with parents and teachers. They can be reached by calling the Counseling Center Office at (865) 980-1206 or e-mailing the counselors (listed below). Students transferring from other schools will meet with WBHS counselors to develop a schedule. These students must bring several documents with them prior to registering: a withdrawal form and transcript from the previous school, a current Tennessee Health Department Record of Immunizations, documents of custodial arrangements, and a copy of their IEP if they are special education students.

Each year the same counselor will be assigned to the Ninth Grade Academy. However, for upperclassmen, a school counselor will be assigned to students by last name (A-G, H-O, P-Z). For these students, the counselor will remain the same until graduation.

Research has shown that the continuity of the same counselor will benefit students. Students and parents will become more familiar and more comfortable with opening the lines of communication between school and home. By everyone working together, there will be a greater opportunity to produce positive results in the areas of academics, attendance, discipline and career planning.
