Acceptance/Waitlist Notification: Students will be notified of acceptance to the summer school program by supervising teachers on May 13th. Summer School dates will be 5/18/2020-6/1/2020, and students must commit to being in attendance or attending virtually for each day that the program is in session. Students may be placed on a waitlist as the program is very competitive, and parents may be contacted after the program begins as spots become available.
Student Progress and Absences: Students cannot miss any days and must complete an appropriate amount of work for each day they are enrolled.
As summer school this year will be conducted virtually, students will be expected to complete a minimum of 10% progress in the course prior to 4:00 P.M. each business day in order to be marked present. Students will be required to attend an opening virtual meeting and will be required to attend any additional meetings with the summer school instructors as scheduled. (Students attempting multiple credits will need to complete a minimum of 20% in their courses per day.)
Failure to attend virtual meetings or complete the assigned work during the day may result in dismissal from the summer school program. Parents will be notified of a student's failure to attend or complete work by the supervising teacher prior to dismissal.
Students who complete their assigned course(s) prior to the end date of summer school will receive an email notification of their completion and be asked to turn in their Chromebook at a specified date/time which will be listed in the email.
Chromebooks and communication: All lost or damaged Chromebooks must be paid for by the student before another Chromebook will be issued. Failure to pay may result in loss of credit for the course.
Students may be expected to join a Google Classroom created by their supervising teacher in order to maintain consistent group communication.
Students must check their email frequently throughout the business day in order to ensure that they have read any important emails regarding progress.
Parents may be contacted via email depending on student behavior or progress.
4. Dress Code: Students are expected to meet the requirements of the BCS dress code for any virtual meetings that take place during the school day. Following is a list of guidelines for Blount County Schools. The principal shall have the right to exclude any attire which is disruptive or which adversely affects the educational atmosphere.
Students should be modestly covered from shoulder to knee. (A two-inch provision from the top of the knee may be determined appropriate.)
Inappropriate clothing will be considered any clothing that exhibits written, pictorial, or implied references to illegal substances, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, negative slogans, vulgarities, or that are sexual or racial in nature.
Gang related styles/apparel shall not be permitted.
Pajamas or slippers shall not be permitted.
Hats or hoods are not to be worn.
Conduct: Students will adhere to the rules and regulations of Blount County Schools. A copy of the rules will be provided to any student who desires a copy. Students are responsible for meeting and adhering to all tenets of the electronic media agreement and harassment policies and should specifically review those prior to interaction with peers on course sites. Any violation of these rules will result in an immediate dismissal from summer school and forfeiture of fees.
Completion: Awarding a credit is determined by completion of course content with satisfactory scores. Parents will know that a student has completed a course when their student receives an email notification from their teacher (Parents will be copied on email communication with students).
