My name is Kelly Ann Pegg, and I am the prevention specialist at Bloomsburg Area School District. The role of the prevention specialist is to:
increase awareness about drug & alcohol and mental health issues, promoting communication around these topics
provide education about the negative effects of drug & alcohol use, promoting healthy decision making
connect students and families with community interventions and resources if needed
I am also available to meet with students individually at school, or in a group setting. There are middle and high school groups available, with topics including self esteem and self confidence, healthy decision making, goal setting, managing emotions, as well as increasing motivation and responsibility. If you are interested in learning more about groups, please feel free to contact me at kpegg@bloomsd.k12.pa.us or (570) 784-6100.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is always there if you need to talk, text or chat. Caring counselors are on hand to help with any needs you have, you are not alone!
Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. Practice taking care of yourself, so that you can help take care of others. Let's take action to be happier and kinder, together. Take the Self-Care September challenge, visit the calendar for more ideas!
This year's World Suicide Prevention Day theme is "Starting the Conversation." Connection is prevention and anyone can play a role in suicide prevention by reaching out. Check out seizetheawkward.org for helpful conversation starters.
Asking some about their mental health can feel scary and overwhelming. But being present, listening, and offering support can make a huge difference in someone's life. Visit #BeThe1To change the conversation from suicide to suicide prevention.
Local crisis resources include calling the TAPLine at 1-800-222-9016, texting PA to 741741, or visiting http://www.crisistextline.org/.
