The Intervention and Referral Services Process
The Intervention and Referral Services Team process is a collaborative school effort between the district personnel and parents to intervene when a student has been identified as making minimal academic, behavioral, and/or emotional progress in the regular education setting. The team collects and evaluates relevant data in order to determine or identify specific barriers to student performance. Once these barriers have been identified, individualized interventions are determined and implemented through an action plan in order to alleviate the concerns. Student monitoring continues throughout this process by the individuals identified in the action plan. This process is ongoing to maintain the identification and evaluation of problems, solutions, and progress within the student’s academic setting.
Every referral is unique with specific objective depending on the needs of each individual student. Any parent and/or staff personnel can refer a student to the team based on consistent academic, behavioral, and/or social difficulties. Upon receiving a referral, a survey is sent to the parent by the principal and a meeting time is set up. All members of the team are invited to participate in the meeting. The team will look at the whole student, discussing information collected by teachers, parents, discipline records, health reports, attendance records or any other pertinent documentation that will help with the student’s progress.
At the meeting, we will identify objectives to increase the student’s level of success and create an action plan, if needed. These objectives, along with the student’s progress will be monitored for a specific time decided by the team. A follow-up meeting may occur to discuss the effectiveness of the action plan.
