Ms. Donovan's 6th Grade class

September 2023

Welcome back Students and Parents!  I hope you enjoyed a relaxing and restful summer break.  I am thrilled to have you in my class and am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you!  Many new and exciting challenges and learning opportunities await!

Several things to know about 6th grade:

In Bloomfield, 6th grade is departmentalized.  That means you will have different teachers for different subjects.  I will be your Social Studies and Science teacher, Mrs. Ratta will be your ELA teacher and Mr. Aiello will be your Math teacher.

In 6th grade, you earn actual number grades, not letters. You have experience with the letter grades of N - not meeting standards, A - approaching standards, M - meets standards and E - exceeds standards.  In number grades these are approximate to: not meeting the standard, 64 or below; approaching the standard, 65 - 69; meeting the standard, 70 - 89; and exceeding the standard, 90 - 100.  These number grades correspond to the following: F= 64 and below, D= 65 - 69, C= 70 - 79, B= 80 - 89,  and A= 90 - 100.

Each subject is category weighted. That means tests, quizzes, projects, homework and participation may be weighted differently in each subject.  In Science, all are equal at 25% each.  In Social Studies, they are weighted differently.  This is listed in the Social Studies tab.  Each subject teacher will review with you the district’s chosen category weighting for that subject.

Homework: Homework will be posted as assigned in Google Classroom.  Please check each of your Google Classrooms daily.  Also, for those of you prepared with planners, update your planner at the end of each class.

It is advisable to have a clear and set workstation and supplies available both in school and at home.    You are  accountable for your work. Check your work to make sure it is completed well.  (Parents, please check to see this is completed.)  To ensure success, limit distractions to a minimum.  Please check individual teachers’ websites for additional information and email addresses.

I look forward to an exciting and safe school year!
