Heather joined the BHS staff in September 2017. She has a Masters in Social Work with a concentration in Trauma Counseling and a certification in Violence Against Women and Children from Rutgers University. She is also a certified School Social Worker and NJ State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Her work experience has encompassed women’s issues, children & adolescents, trauma, bereavement, crisis intervention, anxiety, child study team/IEP case management, and outreach/prevention work. In addition to working full-time at BHS, she works part-time at her own private practice where she provides individual therapy and coaching to adults & adolescents. Heather also has several years of experience working in non-for-profit environments serving children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect. Her professional interests include suicide prevention, policy advocacy, and holistic health & wellness.
Jennifer Remsen, LCSW, LCADC
Jenn joined the Bloomfield High School crisis team in September 2023. She has a Masters of Social Work with a concentration in addictions from Rutgers University. Jenn is also a Certified School Social Worker, a NJ Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a NJ Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). Her professional experience includes working with both adolescents and adults with varying mental health and substance abuse diagnosis’. Jenn has worked several years in co-occurring outpatient settings where she provided group and individual counseling, as well as comprehensive assessments and case management services. Jenn also has a private practice where she provides individual therapy for adults and adolescents. Her professional interests include suicide prevention and trauma focused care.
Jessica Zarra, LCSW
Jessica holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Gender Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Social Work from New York University. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New Jersey, Jessica has extensive experience providing counseling in educational settings. Previously, she worked at Watsessing Elementary School where she supported students in the Behavioral Disabilities Program. Currently, Jessica serves as the counselor for the PRIDE Program, an alternative education program focused on addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Jessica also serves on the Bloomfield district crisis team. With a deep commitment to inclusivity, Jessica has a strong interest in diversity and LGBTQ+ issues, striving to create supportive and affirming environments for all students.
Siobhan McDermott, LPC, LCADC
Siobhan is Bloomfield School District's Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC). She has a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgian Court University and is dually licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Additionally, Siobhan completed a specialized professional training program focused on the physiology of trauma, becoming a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in 2023. Since then, Siobhan volunteers her time assisting in the educational trainings through the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. Along with being the full-time SAC, she has a private practice providing individual counseling sessions. Some of Siobhan's professional interests include: the impact of trauma on physiology, behavior and learning.
